Job Description

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking an Area Specialist for Oil Movements.

Job Duties

  • Key owner and implementation of long term area plans that align with Navajo’s Vision
  • Lead by example, develop a winning-disciplined-innovative-courageous operating culture – ONEHFC
  • Develop a strong Team with talent depth & diversity
  • Partner with the Shift Team to move Navajo Culture from Reactive to Proactive by implementing systems
  • Purposefully develop our people
  • Increase team capability through focused training and development efforts
  • Assure alignment with HFC risk tolerance (profile) and grow the team to move Navajo culture to aligned risk tolerance (profile) level
  • Create a strong process safety culture – everyone knows their role in process safety & the tools and processes to sustainably drive risk management
  • Set the bar on risk tolerance – define what is no longer acceptable & drive programs to understand
  • Drive a culture of understanding and adherence to our environmental compliance limits
  • Drive Goal Zero/Perfect Day culture & vision forward to a continuously improving culture
  • Lead the daily operation of the plant by:
    • Focusing on long term operational improvements
    • Identifying and address unit yield and catalyst performance issues
    • Updating UTL off target area report
    • Updating night orders
    • Troubleshooting advanced/complex process issues, upsets, or inability to meet production plan.
    • Procuring raw materials such as additives or chemicals
  • Review and approve content for routine operator rounds
  • Review and approve Operating Procedures
  • Partner with Maintenance & Reliability to execute activities
    • Review work orders for validity and adequate information
    • Approve and assign priority to work orders
    • Develop the weekly maintenance schedule
    • Address PM requests
    • Ensure required inspections are complete
  • Lead the Turnaround/Outage activities for area of responsibility by:
    • Developing the scope and providing business justification
    • Owning the operations planning portion of the Turnaround
    • Owning the decon and execution in your area
    • Lead the Pre Start Up PSSR
    • Provide support when original SD/SU plans need modification
  • Lead Safety & Environmental performance
    • Own and update Operating & Emergency Procedures as well as Operating Manuals
    • Lead major incident investigations
    • Develop MOCs and ensure compliance
    • Lead PSSRs in your area
    • Champion, teach and ensure environmental limits are kept
  • Lead training and development in your area
    • Participate in Lead Operator training and certification
  • Identify improvements in your area (increase profitability, improve safety/environmental, improve reliability)
  • Develop project scope and business justification
  • Commission new equipment

 

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of five years of related experience with at least two years in a lead role is required. A significant amount of industry specific experience is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Required Skills

Working knowledge of OSHA safety rules and regulations. DOT Training for the Safe Transportation of Hazardous Materials (HM126F) is required. Computer skills including data acquisition and systems application. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbal and written communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, supervisory and leadership skills. Advanced knowledge of refinery operations. Flexible, decisive and innovative. Ability to act decisively under pressure and communicate effectively with others. Basic reading and wiritng skills, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calcualtions.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Management Skills for Supervisors and special training and/or certifications in computer software is preferred.

Work Conditions

Office and field based with up to 5% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-dors environment, and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, wet and/or oil contaminated conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require lifting and/or carrying up to 30lbs, standing, walking, sitting, twisintg, stooping, coruching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movement, reaching or grasping, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, and ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), perecving color differences, strenuous physical activity.
