Requirements The
Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) , founded in 1919, is a premier school of international affairs. SFS provides a rigorous education grounded in both theory and practice while instilling the Jesuit value of service. Father Edmund A. Walsh, S.J.'s vision was a school that would prepare students for all major forms of foreign representation - official and unofficial, governmental and private sector, whether commercial, financial, consular or diplomatic.
The
Assistant Director of Content Strategy manages the SFS editorial calendar, writes content for the website and social media properties, and ensures that new web stories and profiles are continually added to the SFS websites and social media accounts. The incumbent supports SFS Events by developing and executing communications coverage plans to promote those events, both before and after The Assistant Director manages email campaigns for the admissions process and assists with SFS newsletters. Reporting to the Director of Communications and working in close collaboration with the SFS Communications team and the Dean's Office, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Editorial Content Strategy Development and Production - Develop the SFS editorial calendar and put in place a strategic content plan for the SFS website, its various newsletters, and its social media properties, writing stories and profiles for the SFS websites, newsletters, social media, and publications.
- Write and supervise the delivery of the monthly alumni and current student/faculty/staff newsletters.
- Supervise student workers and assign content production tasks, edit their copy for SFS outreach, and handle all administrative tasks related to student workers.
- Copy, edit, fact check, and advise on design of SFS publications, including the SFS magazine (print), SFS newsletters, brochures, event programs, and any other new and revised School publications.
- Develop, write, and oversee the admissions email campaigns for both the graduate and undergraduate programs, working with the various academic administrators to manage the admissions email process in a timely and substantive manner.
- Maintain content on the main SFS website, developing, writing, and posting SFS social media content.
- Advise on content strategy for video in collaboration with Assistant Director for Multimedia Production and Director of Communications, archiving multimedia, photos, news stories, and other data.
- Coordinate with University communications on written content.
Event Support - Develop strategy to pre-promote SFS-sponsored events on social media properties and implement that strategy.
- Produce and post event coverage, to include live Twitter threads and Facebook livestreams and Q/A.
- Manage social media livestreams and trouble shoot technical issues.
- Coordinate photography and video event content for SFS' communications channels.
- Advise programs on A/V needs for events.
Research, Data Management, and Technical Administration - Coordinate with SFS communications team to implement Dean's School-wide communications strategies.
- Collect stories, bios, internship locations, and related data, identifying opportunities for use.
- Collaborate on analysis of website and social media outreach.
- In coordination with the Assistant Director of Multimedia Production, provide training to those who utilize the technologies necessary for content and website maintenance across the School, and guidance to School programs for graphic design and multimedia development.
Requirements and Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in related field of study
- 3-4 years of related professional experience
- Strong writing and editing skills as well as the ability to demonstrate past examples of editorial judgment
- Must have a working knowledge of social media platforms and experience posting on them for an organization
- Must be a team player who can manage student workers in a productive and positive manner
- Familiarity with WordPress is strongly encouraged, as is knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of different distribution media and the ability to tailor content to the strengths of each medium
- Experience producing written content for the web is a plus, as is any experience in an editorial environment

Pay Range: The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
