This position functions as a Central Laboratory and Field Specialist within the Concrete Materials Unit of the Materials Management Section of the Division of Transportation System Development, Bureau of Technical Services.
This position performs statewide quality assurance duties with respect to aggregates, cementitious, steel, geosynthetic, asphalt, and miscellaneous construction materials. Duties include approval/acceptance testing, field testing, communication with external stakeholders, evaluating new materials for special projects, training, operation and maintenance of test equipment, and instructing/demonstrating test procedures.
This position requires knowledge of ASTM and AASHTO test procedures dealing with a wide variety of materials and shares responsibility for maintaining AASHTO accreditation of the Department’s only accredited laboratory. This position requires the ability to obtain certification as a Portland Cement Concrete Technician I, Concrete Strength Tester and Aggregate Technician under the Highway Technician Certification Program. Work is performed under general supervision of the Materials Laboratory Supervisor.

The Senior position is in schedule-range 14-14 with an annual salary of $63,170 - $72,800, plus excellent benefits.
The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $67,746 - $87,360, plus excellent benefits.
A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Wisconsin residency is required for project positions.
These project/permanent positions have been authorized until May 2026. Project/permanent positions are eligible for all benefits (including paid time off) as well as civil service status. After successful completion of the 12 month probationary period (if applicable), employees in these positions will attain permanent status and will be eligible to transfer to other permanent positions similar to other permanent employees in state service. This allows employees to be considered for other similar positions when the project position approaches its expiration date of 24 or 48 months.
WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.
