We are recruiting to fill a Court Reporter within the Missouri Judicial branch. Persons serving as official court reporter shall be an officer of the court and shall hold office at the pleasure of the judge who appoints the reporter.

Must be a Certified Court Report (CCR) as provided by Rule 14 of the Missouri State Supreme Court Rules.
May also have a Registered Professional Reporter Certification but must obtain the CCR from Missouri within 24 months of employment and must maintain certification and remain in good standing.

We are looking for a detailed and friendly person to serve as Court Reporter for the 13th Judicial
Circuit. The Court Reporter is responsible for making a word‐for‐word transcript of legal proceedings.
The verbatim documentation in criminal, civil and other court proceedings requires a professional
who is highly skilled and trained in court reporting. This position is a state employee, working under
the direct supervision of the Division II Judge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may

The function of the Court Reporter is to capture spoken dialogue and preserve all courtroom proceedings
through acceptable verbatim recording method such as machine shorthand or steno mask, keep a daily log
of cases heard, and attend jury trial and court proceedings that require written transcription.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified applicants must be a Certified Court Reporter (CCR) as provided by Rule 14 of the Missouri State
Supreme Court Rules. Employee must maintain certification and remain in good standing. Qualified applicants
must be skilled in the operation of reporting equipment and general office equipment. Must have the ability
to work independently and with initiative under minimal supervision; must be highly accurate and detail
oriented; ability to work under pressure and with interruptions; ability to adhere to strict procedures; ability
to be non‐judgmental and culturally sensitive; ability to organize a variety of demands and prioritize
competing tasks; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to maintain
confidential information; ability to professionally represent the Court and adhere to professional ethics.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:
Knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications related to court reporting work
Knowledge of filing and electronic record keeping systems
Knowledge of legal processes and terminology
Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling; advanced skill in communicating effectively
using the English language, both orally and in writing
Skill in reading and preparing legal documents
Skill in application of state and federal guidelines, rules, and statutes to perform essential functions of
position
Advanced skill in discretion and maintaining confidential information
Advanced skill in handling stress successfully and the ability to work well with other employees, court
professionals and the public
Ability to multi‐task
Ability to learn and apply policies, procedures, documents and terminology affecting assigned
functions
Advanced ability to work independently and follow instructions
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. Professional attire required. This position is routinely
in contact with the public, witnesses, defendants, victims, law enforcement agencies, court employees,
attorneys, and members of other entities. This position will be exposed to graphic evidence submitted at
trials.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Court work hours will be generally Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. with additional work hours
as required, except for holidays.
This employee will work in the Boone and Callaway County Courthouses.
This position is an officer of the court and shall hold office at the pleasure of the judge who appoints
the reporter.
