Dept Marketing Statement
Under general direction from the head coach, the volunteer assistant coach works with the Head Coach and Women's Volleyball Staff to run effective drills in practice, record statistics in practice and any home matches and help in strategies for player development and improvement. Work with the Head Coach and staff to review opponents and develop team game tactics for matches. Use video software (GMS and Hudl) to create teaching and scouting videos for student-athlete development and preparation.
Display commitment to the academic success of student-athletes.
May be responsible for specific aspects of the sports program including, but not limited to, individual middle blocker and hitter, player development, teaching middle blockers and hitters position skill-work, planning and execution of practice and games, opponent scouts/film breakdown.
Must foster an environment of NCAA compliance. Additionally, staff are expected to embrace the NCAA DIII philosophy and UCSC Principles of Community. The Volunteer Assistant Coach reports directly to the Head Coach. Work schedule often includes: evenings, weekends, and holidays. Coach reports directly to the Head Coach. Job Duties
100% Under guidance of head coach, develops technical aspects of player coaching.
Analyzes performance and instructs participants in program strategies and techniques to prepare them
for competition
Observes players while they perform to determine the need for individual or team improvement and participates in student athlete performance.
Ensures adherence to all governing rules, university, department, Conference, NCAA policies and procedures and NCAA compliance.
Represents and promotes professional conduct, university good will and high standards at all events and matches and may assist in coaching at competitive events.
Considerable time is spent on court instructing students
Position may be asked to demonstrate or be involved in athletic activities
May assist in most practice and conditioning sessions. May be required to tour the campus with students. May assist in driving vans to and from the airport.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in physical education, kinesiology, human performance or equivalent program and / or equivalent experience / training with a college-level volleyball program. Minimum of three years of demonstrated success in an assistant coach or playing position at the College level preferred.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with athletic participants, staff and parents of student athletes.
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making; be an effective problem solver and effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity, as well as basic technical expertise in coaching principles.
Leadership skills to mentor and develop student-athletes, assistant coaching or program instruction staff and skills in effective assistant coaching.
Proven ability to teach specified sport to individuals and the team as a whole. Personal experience with specified sport.
Certifications:
CPR / AED and First Aid certification

Special Conditions
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Possess CPR/AED/First Aid certification or have the ability to obtain it within 60-calendar days of hire. Candidates must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. Possess a valid license to drive in the State of California and be able to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pull notice program.
Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training within one month of hire. Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years.
Will be required to complete the Basic Cash Handling (16 minute video & 10 question quiz) training and pass the quiz with a score of 80% or greater within one month of hire.
Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
