There are no direct reports with this position.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Environmental Engineer is responsible for implementing the strategic direction of the Environmental Manager. Employees in the job class require knowledge of environmental practices, policies, and procedures with the ability to resolve routine to complex environmental issues. This job class requires the ability to both train others in environmental work practice and to inspect facilities for environmental compliance.

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Assists in the implementation and maintenance of an environmental program at a facility.
2. *Trains employees on programs related to hazardous materials and waste.
3. *Responds to employee complaints concerning exposure to hazardous materials or air pollutants. Elevates complaints as necessary.
4. *Samples hazardous and/or industrial waste and bulk samples material suspected of containing asbestos.
5. *Maintains operation and inspection logs.
6. *Submits clear and concise written reports based on field inspections.
8. *May provides coordination with regulatory agencies in regard to hazardous materials.
9. *May Disseminate Right-to-Know information.
10. *Reviews construction project documents to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

11. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Five or more years’ experience administering environmental programs;
• Ability to interpret and implement applicable laws, regulations, and policies;
• Knowledge of Cal OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations; Fire, Hazmat, Title 22, California and local building codes;
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to make presentations and respond to inquiries by management, team, vendors and/or customers;
• Human relation skills to build effective relationships with team and internal customers;
• Intermediate to advanced computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
• Knowledge of business English including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation;
• Mathematical skills to include the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
• Ability to establish priorities and solve a wide range of business problems;
• Demonstrated customer service, common sense, problem solving and analytical skills;
• Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle numerous projects at the same time.

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Bachelors in Environmental Science or related field

Masters Environmental Science or related field

Depending on contract requirements, a Masters Degree may be required for this position. A comparable combination of formal education and work experience will be considered.

 

CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

 

Fed Security Clearance

Valid Driver's License

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

 

• Answering phone/making calls
• Viewing computer screen
• Utilizing keyboard
• Maneuvering to and around worksite and equipment
• May require standing, walking, walking on uneven surfaces
• Bending, kneeling, stooping and reaching
• Lifting or moving materials up to 35 pounds
• Climbing ladders

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Work is performed at a customer’s location in an office/shop environment and on job sites in a construction environment with various tools and equipment. Employees may be exposed to hazardous equipment, toxic substances, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
